Simulations

WHIRLS performs a hierarchy of ocean model configurations down to the km-scale, both in forced and coupled mode, and with biogeochemistry.

This page provides an overview of the modelling activities within WHIRLS with some details on the planned configurations and simulation experiments. The figure on the right provides an overview of the domains, globally used in eORCA025 and additionally nested and double-nested used within eINALT20 and eINALT100 configurations respectively.

All configurations will be performed in forced mode, and coupled to an active atmosphere and/or a biogeochemical model.

The table on the right lists planned simulation configurations, highlighting their resolution, model domain and model versions.
